Baulas

The Baulas Marine National Park protects 440 hectares of mangrove swamps in the Tamarindo area. Playa Grande is one of the most important places for the nesting of the Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). This is one of the largest sea turtles which nest from the beaches of Surinam to Malaysia. Some individuals have even been reported on the coasts of Scandinavia!

The Leatherback Sea Turtles arrive to Tamarindo at the beginning of October. The season extends until March, with the highest activity during November to December.
