FAQ

Do I need prior experience driving in Costa Rica?

Not necessarily. Driving in Costa Rica is very doable, especially with a 4x4 vehicle included in your itinerary. While main highways are generally in good condition, some rural and mountain roads can be narrow or unpaved. If you're comfortable driving in unfamiliar terrain and enjoy a bit of adventure, you’ll be just fine.

What wildlife can I expect to see?

Costa Rica is a wildlife haven! Depending on the region, you may encounter sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, caimans, iguanas, colorful frogs, and a dazzling array of tropical birds. In Uvita and surrounding coastal areas, keep an eye out for dolphins and whales during the right season.

What is unique about the Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge?

Caño Negro is one of the most biologically rich wetlands in Central America. It’s a sanctuary for rare birds like jabirus and roseate spoonbills, as well as caimans, turtles, and even jaguars in the surrounding forests. Its remote, untouched character makes for an unforgettable nature experience.

When is the best time to see whales during the Whale Watching Tour in Uvita?

The ideal times to see humpback whales are July to October and December to March, when whales migrate to Costa Rica’s warm Pacific waters. Tours during these months have high success rates for sightings, often including playful displays and even calves alongside mothers.
