    Road conditions vary throughout the country. Tropical climates and mountainous terrain make it difficult to maintain the roads in optimal conditions. Road signage is also subpar. The average travel speed, outside of the main highways, is 60 kph (37 mph) and it is recommended to only drive during the day, because if the narrow, windy roads and minimal signage.

ATMs are common in Costa Rica; however, it is good to carry cash in small bills. $100 bills are not accepted in most places, due to a fear of counterfeiting. Most businesses also accept credit and debit cards.

    A small backpack or knapsack for day tours or overnight tours, flashlight, sandals or water shoes, binoculars to observe animals, insect repellent, sunscreen, poncho, umbrella, water and resistant shoes. Electric current in Costa Rica is the same as that of the United States - 110 volts A/C, though all electronic chargers now permit 110 and 220 volts. The outlets are generally with 2 flat entrances or with the third, round entrance below. Travelers from Europe will need an adaptor. Of course, do not forget your camera for your trip.
